INTRODUCING MARCIA McCALL-SAUNDERS: PRESIDENT OF FRIENDS OF THE DOLEMAN BLACK HERITAGE MUSEUM

We are delighted to introduce Ms. Marcia McCall-Saunders, esteemed President of the Friends of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum (FoDBHM). Ms. Saunders has been a dedicated member since the group's inception in 2008, contributing her creativity, style, voice of reason and exceptional organizational skills. Her commitment extends far beyond the FoDBHM, as she played a pivotal role in organizing the City's 2021 Inaugural and the 2022 and 2023 Juneteenth Celebrations in Hagerstown, showcasing her passion for the organization and the community.

The Friends of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum is a collective of former residents of Hagerstown, Maryland’s Jonathan Street neighborhood, their relatives and friends, new residents of Hagerstown, and individuals from across the nation. This diverse group unites to support the mission and endeavors of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum, Inc.

For those of us who grew up in the Jonathan Street neighborhood, memories of visits to the Doleman family home remain etched in our minds. Mrs. Doleman, through her teachings, instilled in us a deep appreciation for local and national history. Following her passing, the museum transformed into a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the rich legacy of the Doleman family.

As the DBHM organization expands, so does the FoDBHM membership. The group is responsible for organizing fundraising events for DBHM, encouraging everyone to enrich the Doleman family collection. The aim is to embrace more stories from families in the old neighborhood and surrounding areas while staying true to the DBHM's mission and vision.
