The 2026 Juneteenth Celebration in Hagerstown and the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month

The 2026 Juneteenth Celebration in Hagerstown and the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month is a three-day, multi-venue cultural, educational, and recreational initiative designed to generate regional visitation, stimulate local economic activity, and enhance Washington County’s visibility as a heritage tourism destination during the nationally significant America250 commemorative year.

Tourism attraction expenses support destination-driven programming and visitor-facing promotion that attracts attendees from outside Washington County. These include regional marketing administered through the Convention Visitors Bureau, ticketed signature events that encourage overnight stays, and high-quality performances that serve as primary draws for visitors.

Economic development enhancement expenses prioritize the circulation of funds within the local economy by compensating artists, instructors, DJs, production staff, and service providers. Event production, technical services, and equipment rentals further support local businesses and ensure professional execution of large-scale public programming.

Cultural project expenses support historically grounded programming that commemorates Juneteenth and the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month. These expenses include educational presentations, heritage performances, and trained program hosts who provide historical context and continuity across multiple days and venues.

Recreational project expenses enhance public participation and accessibility through dance instruction, DJ-led engagement, family- and youth-focused programming, and wellness activities offered during the large-scale public celebration at Wheaton Park, cycling exhibition, basketball, and coaching clinics.

To ensure equity and access, no vendor fees are charged. Event costs are offset through sponsorships, ticketed programming, and diversified funding sources rather than pay-to-participate models.

Friends of DBHM Planning Group invites the community to get involved.
